In an effort to place insured’s into appropriate New York health insurance programs, New York State has recently enacted the New Hire Reporting Law, which goes into effct on 7/15/2011. At that time, all NYS employers must report new hire and rehire information to the Department of Taxation and Finance within 20 days of the hire date. This is being done as part of tracking dependent age 26 and 29 situations, and serves as a means to move people off of state-funded health insurance programs (e.g. Medicaid) that shouldn’t be on them.
For information regarding who needs to report, what needs to be reported, and the methods of reporting this information, visit the New Hire Reporting section of the NYS Department of Taxation and Finance’s web site.
