In a stunning announcement this week, the North Shore LIJ Health System (as well as its insurance company, CareConnect) has entered into a partnership agreement with the Cleveland Clinic…a world renowned cardiac hospital system. Since 1994, no hospital in the United States has ranked higher in cardiac care than the Cleveland Clinic according to US News & World Report.

In this exclusive partnership arrangement for the downstate New York area, North Shore LIJ CareConnect health insurance members now have the ability to seek 2nd opinions, and/or receive treatment at the Cleveland Clinic hospital for cardiac disease located in Ohio. As part of this arrangement, North Shore-LIJ is now considered a member of Cleveland Clinic’s cardiovascular specialty network. This is only the 2nd such alliance the Cleveland Clinic has engaged in, which speaks volumes to North Shore’s existing high-quality cardiac care.

The New York State Department of Health recently reported that North Shore University Hospital had the state’s highest success rate for patients undergoing cardiac stent procedures, while its sister hospital, LIJ Medical Center in New Hyde Park, NY, had New York’s best cardiac surgery outcomes. As such, it makes sense that the Cleveland Clinic, and North Shore LIJ entered into this exclusive partnership arrangement for the downstate NY area.
