Many providers in New York are still unaware of the new individual health insurance networks launching in 2014 as part of the Affordable Care Act. Many are however, and have begun the process of selecting which insurance companies they will be participating with starting next month.

For consumers living in downstate New York, top quality in-network hospital participation is of utmost importance when it comes to shopping for a new health plan. One such hospital is NYU Langone Medical Center, a teaching and research hospital located in the heart of Manhattan.

This past week, the Insurance Clearance Department of NYU Langone Medical Center announced which health plans available on the NY State of Health Exchange they will be participating with. There are only five on-exchange plans they will be in-network with, and they are as follows:

-Affinity Health Plan
-Fidelis Care
-United HealthCare/Oxford (“Compass” network)
-Oscar (“MagnaCare” network)
-Health Republic Insurance of New York (“MagnaCare Extra” network)

NY residents whom have enrolled in an individual health plan with a carrier not listed above will not have access to NYU Langone Hospital for elective procedures. These remaining downstate NY carriers are:

-Aetna
-Atlantis (Easy Choice Health Plan of New York)
-Empire Blue Cross (“Pathway” network)
-Emblem Health (“Select Care” network)
-HealthFirst
-MetroPlus Health Plan
-MVP Health Care
-North Shore LIJ (“CareConnect” network)

Individuals in downstate NY who need access to NYU Langone Medical Center will need to enroll into a participating on-exchange health plan, or via United HealthCare/Oxford’s off-exchange “Liberty” network plan.
